Dear Friends,
Traditionally, we have held the Ganesh Kirtan early in January, to offer our prayers for the new year. After having to postpone in January, we’ve resecheduled for this weekend. We will follow the same program, with mantras, kirtan, and a beautiful ceremony in which we infuse flower blossoms with our prayers and toss them at the feet of the Ganesh murti. In these next few days leading up to the event, be considering what you would like to include in your prayers for 2022.
If you have not attended this kirtan and blessing ceremony before, I hope you will tune in this year. It is traditional to invoke the blessings of Ganesh at the beginning of any undertaking. This event evolved over the years as I dedicated the first kirtan of each year to Ganesh. We do kirtan and mantras to Ganesh, as well as a meditation to reflect on the past year before offering prayers for the coming year. The prayers are offered in the form of flowers which we instill with our wishes for the new year. We then toss the flowers at the feet of the Ganesh murti, and wave a candle as an offering of light to the deity. Last year, since we were on Zoom, we offered the flowers and light on behalf of everyone in the audience. I received feedback from many people that the power of the evening was strongly felt online.
The Ganesh Kirtan is offered on a donation basis. Suggested donation for the evening is $20, but all donations are gratefully received. Donate via PayPal: umareed@sbcglobal.net -or- Venmo: @Uma-Reed
I look forward to sharing this sacred time with you.
With love and pranams,
Uma
